Understanding the Cost of Medical Weight Loss

One of the most common questions we hear is: how much does medical weight loss actually cost? The honest answer is that it depends — on your insurance plan, the medication prescribed, and your individual clinical needs. But at PEAK, we believe you deserve clear answers before you commit to treatment.

The total cost of a medical weight loss program typically breaks down into three categories:

The good news is that for most patients with commercial insurance or TRICARE, the total out-of-pocket cost is far lower than the list prices you may have seen online. PEAK’s team works to maximize your coverage and minimize your costs.

Medication Costs

The list prices for GLP-1 weight loss medications can seem daunting at first glance. However, list price is rarely what patients actually pay.

Wegovy (semaglutide)

Wegovy list pricing can be high without insurance, but commercial coverage and savings programs can reduce out-of-pocket cost significantly for eligible patients.

Zepbound (tirzepatide)

Zepbound list pricing can also be high without insurance. Like Wegovy, actual out-of-pocket cost is typically lower when coverage and savings programs apply.

Important note on pricing

These are list prices and do not reflect what most patients actually pay. Your actual cost depends on your specific insurance plan, formulary tier, deductible status, and eligibility for manufacturer savings programs. PEAK provides a personalized cost estimate before your first visit.

Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage for GLP-1 weight loss medications has improved dramatically over the past two years. Most major commercial plans now cover Wegovy and/or Zepbound when prescribed with appropriate clinical documentation and prior authorization.

PEAK handles the prior authorization process on your behalf. Our team submits the required clinical documentation to your insurance company, follows up on decisions, and appeals denials when appropriate. You do not need to work through this process alone.

Insurance plans we accept

Note: PEAK accepts commercial insurance and TRICARE. We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid.

Coverage is expanding as more insurers recognize GLP-1 medications as clinically effective treatments for obesity. If your plan is not listed above, contact us — we may still be able to work with your insurer.

Insurance verification before your first visit

Our team contacts your insurance provider before your appointment so you know your estimated costs upfront. We verify medication coverage, check your deductible status, and identify any prior authorization requirements — all before you walk in the door.

Manufacturer Savings Programs

Both Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly offer savings programs that can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket medication costs. These programs are separate from your insurance and can be combined with your plan’s coverage.

Wegovy Savings Card (Novo Nordisk)

The Novo Nordisk savings card for Wegovy is available to eligible commercially insured patients and can significantly reduce out-of-pocket medication cost. The program applies manufacturer discounts based on plan rules and eligibility.

Eligibility requirements include having commercial insurance (not Medicare, Medicaid, or other government-funded plans) and a valid prescription for Wegovy. PEAK helps patients determine eligibility and apply for the savings card as part of our intake process.

Zepbound Savings Program (Eli Lilly)

Eli Lilly offers a savings program for Zepbound that provides similar benefits for eligible commercially insured patients. The program can reduce monthly costs substantially, and PEAK assists patients with enrollment.

During your onboarding, our team reviews all available savings programs, checks your eligibility, and helps you enroll. We want to make sure you are paying the lowest possible price for your medication.

What PEAK’s Program Includes

When you compare costs, it is important to understand what you are getting. PEAK’s medical weight loss program is not a prescription mill or a telehealth-only service. It is a full, clinician-led program that includes:

The value of a program is not just the medication — it is the clinical team, the monitoring, and the support that keeps you safe and on track.

Many telehealth-only providers offer prescriptions without thorough evaluation, ongoing monitoring, or dietitian support. At PEAK, you receive the full clinical experience — which is why our patients achieve better long-term outcomes.

Self-Pay Options

For patients whose insurance does not cover GLP-1 medications, the cost of treatment can be significant. PEAK’s primary focus is insurance-covered treatment, and we work hard to get medications approved through your plan.

PEAK Self-Pay Visit Rates

These rates cover your clinical visits only. Medication costs are separate and depend on your insurance, savings card eligibility, and the specific medication prescribed.

If your insurance denies coverage for the medication itself, we explore every available option:

We are transparent about costs at every step. If out-of-pocket costs are prohibitive, your clinician will discuss all available alternatives so you can make an informed decision.

No Hidden Fees

At PEAK, you will never be surprised by an unexpected bill. Our approach to pricing is straightforward:

We believe that transparent pricing is part of providing excellent care. You should be able to focus on your health, not worry about unexpected costs.
